Here's the scoop...

National Observer is looking for a strong communicator to be our brand ambassador in customer relations, providing service and support to subscribers and helping with questions and technical issues. You must have a strong interest in journalism, a respect for National Observer's core values which puts people first, and an understanding that our success hinges upon customer satisfaction.

This is a part-time position, starting at 10 hours a week, with room to grow into more, as our subscriber base increases.

The main tasks of this role are:

  • Providing courteous, warm and prompt responses to customers' emails on a daily basis
  • Providing communications support to our Managing Editor, Mike De Souza and Editor-in-Chief, Linda Solomon Wood
  • Following the daily stream of reporting we do in order to share that with customers in your communications

Your experience and skills:

  • Must be organized and able to manage multiple conversations (over email)
  • Must be a quick learner with an eye for detail
  • Must be able to both take direction
  • Must be kind, unflappable and always sympathetic in receiving complaints or critiques

You’re great at:

  • Showing empathy and understanding for customer issues
  • Providing a consistent, helpful and engaging tone that reflects our brand
  • Communicating with development team to identify system issues affecting customers
  • Organizing customer queries and replying to them effectively

Candidates based in Ottawa are preferred although we would consider a strong candidate with whom we would work remotely.
