Arenas are some of Winnipeg’s biggest energy sinks. A handful of city councillors are looking to change that.
A motion passed at City of Winnipeg council in May freed up $8 million in provincial funds for the city’s aging arenas. Coun. Ross Eadie (Mynarski) says it provides an opportunity to breathe new life into the buildings and turn them into green energy sources for their neighbourhoods by replacing old natural gas heating systems with geothermal energy.
