The world is racing toward a low-carbon economy — and Canada is falling behind.
Our country earns just US$3,000 per tonne of climate pollution, Barry Saxifrage illustrates in his latest series of charts for Canada’s National Observer. That puts us ninth among the world’s top 10 economies, just ahead of China.
But while China is cleaning up its carbon emissions at twice the rate of Canada, we are faltering in our efforts to strengthen the economy and protect our climate’s future at the same time, he says.
“In fact, if these rates continue, China will pass us in the next decade — leaving Canada dead last.”
