In a recent article, Oliver Milman reported that a team led by Dr. Leslie Field was up in Alaska spreading sand on a frozen lake. The researchers are hoping to find a way to slow sea ice melt.

I suppose it's worth trying on a small scale, but isn't fresh ice a very good reflector of sunlight already?
Why add sand?
