Canada’s National Observer (CNO) is proud to announce executive editor Karyn Pugliese has taken home the highest honour for a columnist in Canada.
Her three powerful pieces, written after the discovery of unmarked graves on the grounds of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School, earned her the National Newspaper Awards’ Mary Ann Shadd Cary Award for Columns.
“I am deeply grateful to the National Observer for bringing Indigenous voices into the newsroom in a meaningful way through First Nations Forward,” Karyn said. “My people have been carrying these stories for a long time, and we need to share the truth about history if reconciliation is going to happen.”
CNO founder and editor-in-chief Linda Solomon Wood celebrated “the recognition by the National Newspaper Awards of Karyn’s brilliant analysis and storytelling.”
