Clean energy solutions need a louder voice — yours

Climate change denier Donald Trump is back as president of the United States.

The president of Azerbaijan, host of this year’s UN climate summit, says planet-heating fossil fuels are a “gift from God”.

Climate policy resister Pierre Poilievre could win Canada’s next federal election.

There’s no shortage of reasons for despair over the world’s progress in making the critical shift from fossil fuels to clean energy.

But there’s hope — and you can help us keep it alive. This winter, Canada’s National Observer has set an ambitious fundraising goal of $150,000 to support critical reporting on climate solutions and the transition to clean energy. By donating today, you’ll help ensure we have the resources to investigate solutions, hold leaders accountable, and keep Canadians informed.

As a journalist covering the energy transition for more than 15 years abroad and now from Ottawa, we share your pessimism.

But in the six months we’ve been writing about business solutions to the climate crisis, our optimism is regularly renewed.

From nine Canadian families launching a $405 million fund to finance climate solutions to innovative energy storage technology in Quebec that could revolutionize clean power grids, and the first deal between an offshore wind developer and a First Nations community – there are reasons for hope.

Reporting on these innovative people, businesses and their ideas has never been more important. As Canada heads into an election year, it’s critical to have factual and unbiased coverage of party policies helping or hindering the transition to a low-carbon economy.

We need your help to ensure that climate solutions are front-and-centre as Canadians go to the polls sometime in 2025.

Donating to Canada's National Observer means you are supporting our mission to lead national coverage of the climate crisis and the shift to a clean economy. You can help us to make sure leaders in industry, finance and government are accountable for their words and actions.

As a donor to Canada's National Observer, you'll be in good company. Government ministers, NGO leaders, activists, CEOs, UN delegates, and academics are among our most ardent subscribers. Your support will mean we can continue to deliver informed, objective news, analysis and long-read journalism to millions of Canadians increasingly being impacted by climate change.
