The Manitoba government has decided to adopt the lowest possible standard for energy efficiency when the newest national model codes take effect next year.
“It’s a missed opportunity to reduce the cost of living for Manitobans,” said Laura Tyler, executive director of Sustainable Building Manitoba.
On July 7, the province announced the Manitoba Building Code, Manitoba Plumbing Code, Manitoba Energy Code and Manitoba Fire Code will all be updated to the 2020 national model codes, as of Jan. 1, 2024. Among five available tiers of energy efficiency for new buildings, Manitoba has adopted Tier 1, the lowest possible standard.

What is it about Conservative parties? They truly have no clue about leadership of a collective enterprise, such as a society, when faced with significant challenges. A mob of people, acting for personal, short-term interest, isn't the path to a better-functioning polity. I truly don't understand the thinking.
When your ideology claims that government is the problem and is inherently incapable of efficient action, and then you get control of the government, you have no basis for action--you literally have no model for how one might run an effective government, and certainly no motivation to figure it out, because you're claiming it's not possible.
Further, when your ideology says that complete selfishness is the highest good, the only obvious thing to do with power once you get it is to, basically, take bribes, or maybe embezzle . . . self-dealing of whatever kind you can come up with. And hey, it's just the public sector you're defrauding; if you refer to the other part of the ideology, stealing from the government (inherently bad) to give to private sector greedhead grifters (inherently good) must be a GOOD thing, especially if you can make a bit of bank out of it yourself.
The fact that you're screwing things up for most of the actual people you're supposedly governing need not register. When free market utopia finally someday delivers perfect prosperity, they'll thank you for robbing them.
Why is that governments flatly disregard climate change and our need to conserve and use resources efficiently? How very, very short sighted! We need to rescue ourselves from all the damage that we have caused our environment and we need to do it today and not tomorrow. When did conservatives become so reactionary or have they always behaved not in the general population’s best interests?
